Auckland Council has 56 libraries around the region providing Aucklanders with access to books, magazines, audiobooks, ebooks, video streaming, research materials and much more.
Anyone living in Auckland can join the library for free - just fill in a registration form online or in person at your local library (just make sure that you bring a photo ID with you.)
Libraries have more than just books to offer:
- You can book a librarian. They can give you one on one help with things like researching your family history, writing your CV or updating your digital skills.
- If you have a library membership, you can sign up for free courses online with LinkedIn Learning. There are around 16,000 free eLearning video courses and tutorials to help you upgrade your technology, creative and business skills
- Our libraries run a variety of events and programmes throughout the year, including activities for babies, children and teens, workshops and talks, exhibitions and computer classes.
- You can also join book clubs, craft clubs, language conversation groups and more – it’s a great way to meet people in your local area with similar interests. Click here to see what's on
- Offering so much more than paper books, you can also rent e-books with a huge range of fiction and non-fiction available to read on your favourite device. There are also e-books available for teens and younger children, audiobooks, e-magazines, e-newspapers, podcasts that the libraries team create, and also movie-streaming capabilities.
- The heritage team at libraries care for the heritage book collections (including the Sir George Grey Special Collection) and are always adding to the heritage collection. You can check out the heritage collection online, or visit the central city library.
