After a tough year for local business, the Ōrākei Local Board Business Awards 2021 offer a chance for locals to show their love by voting for those they consider the best in the area.
“We are very pleased to be able to bring the Business Awards back this year,” says Ōrākei Local Board Chair Scott Milne.
“We received almost 400 nominations and have a record 71 finalists, so it’s easy to see that our communities are strong supporters of the Love Local Shop Local initiative, and that excellence and grit have flourished in these very challenging times.
“We expect to see a similar outpouring of support via public voting, which isn’t simply about choosing a winner, but a really positive way of showing support and encouragement for local businesses.”
There are eight categories including retail large and small, hospitality licensed and unlicensed, and social enterprise. The category winners will be based on the quality of the product provided or the service received, secret shopper visits and a written component reviewed by the judging panel. An overall Supreme Winner will also be announced at the awards night in September.
“We encourage everyone, both those who live and work within and beyond the Ōrākei Local Board boundaries, to get online to let our local businesses know they are appreciated,” says Milne.
Visit the Ōrākei Local Board Business Awards Facebook page for finalist details and information about how to vote, or vote here. Voting is open now and closes on 3 September.
The awards are funded by Ōrākei Local Board and supported by sponsorship from a range of much-appreciated and supportive local businesses, including Barfoot & Thompson Remuera, Four Square Ellerslie, Remuera Golf Club, Ellerslie Jewellers, Presentations Print and Hoed Research.
