Downtown Auckland is now an expression of Tāmaki Makaurau; a place where coastal life is celebrated, where mature native vegetation shelters us and reminds us where we are, and to which people will be drawn to experience and understand our unique place in the world.

It’s the product of an innovative design partnership between ngā mana whenua o Tāmaki Makaurau, Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland Council, Auckland Transport and some of the best urban design teams in Aotearoa. Mana whenua developed a set of values that they, the designers and project team worked from, and which have guided the design and construction of our beautiful and meaningful new waterfront public spaces.

Hear and see mana whenua provide their stories and experiences in being part of a team that has delivered these new waterfront public spaces for Tāmaki Makaurau: Herenga Waka, Herenga Tāngata.
