The uncertainty caused by the spread of COVID-19 may cause issues that last beyond the immediate and will have implications for the future, says Josephine Bartley, Councillor for Maungakiekie-Tamaki Ward.

“The financial pressures on spending due to the COVID–19 pandemic are a reality, and while the council has made significant cuts we can’t cut everything so we need to be even more careful with what we spend on.

"Having your input will help us make decisions on what we should prioritise to serve the needs of communities,” says Cr Bartley.

Auckland Council’s Annual Budget 2022-2023 sets out the areas where spending will be allocated. There are many competing interests across the region and ward area.

We have so much growth in our ward, so it's a matter of balancing our business as usual and meeting the needs of redeveloped areas taking on intensification.

“While we continue to steer and support each other through this time, it is necessary for us to also take climate change seriously.”  The Climate Action Targeted rate will allow us to put in place measures to help mitigate and stall the worst impacts of climate change.

Councillor Bartley is urging people in the area to explore all of the resources available, seek information and give their feedback.

Public feedback on the Annual Budget 2022/23 is open from 28 February until 5pm on 28 March.
