A letter of support to Iranian Women in NZ (IWIN) from the women of Auckland Council’s governing body

Last Updated : 16 Nov 2022

Tēnā koutou,

We, the undersigned women of Auckland Council’s governing body, write to express our support for Iranian women and protesters and join them in solidarity following the killing of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini.

We echo the New Zealand government’s call for a thorough, independent, and prompt investigation of recent deaths of people in the custody of Iranian authorities, and condemn the suppression of protestors and journalists. We denounce the brutal violence of security forces in response to the expression of fundamental human rights by women and peaceful protesters in Iranian society.

We join leaders all over the world to stand in solidarity with women, political dissidents, and socially disadvantaged individuals such as ethnic, religious, sexual and gender minorities, as well as the poor in Iran, as they reclaim their political rights and strive to fulfil the promises of democracy.
