Information on an array of services available within the Manurewa area has been co-ordinated into a single document available online.
The Age Friendly Services Directory is a Manurewa Local Board initiative launched after residents raised concerns some people experienced difficulties in accessing information for the services they might need.
Though tagged 'age friendly' and compiled with senior community members in mind, the directory can be used by anyone, with online links embedded to relevant websites, alongside phone numbers and addresses.
Compiled by Auckland Council community delivery advisor Ayr Jones, he says his work with Manurewa’s Lifelong Learning Fund and Seniors Network programmes convinced him there was a need, with many residents unable to easily contact details for a wide range of services.
“I started gathering information as I tried to help people, and then combined it with useful details about services, education, courses and the Lifelong Learning Fund.
“Trying to figure out what to do with all this information led to putting it all in one place and into a format anyone can access and use.”
Manurewa Local Board Chair Glenn Murphy says the directory has a vast array of helpful information and links.
“We know we have many great people doing fabulous things, but we also know a lot of our people struggle to access the services they are entitled to and need.
“This directory puts everything you need into one place, and you can download it using a QR code or from Auckland Council’s website here [PDF].”
“Having it online means you avoid the significant printing costs that have been a real barrier to producing a document like this one,” Murphy says.
The document has direct links to each organisation’s web pages and can easily be updated given organisations often change contact details.
