Yoga classes for seniors are among the activities supported.

More than 20 groups will benefit from Manurewa Local Board’s community grants.

An annual budget of $191,886 was available across the board’s grants rounds.

Round one allocated $62,283.67, and another $36,000 to its youth grants programme, with $70,041.75 used for the second round.

The board was able to reallocate $3397 from Age Friendly Initiatives that did not proceed, making the sum available $26,957.58, allocating all but $842.04 in round three.

Board chair Glenn Murphy says $35,000 in unspent funds from Tātaki Auckland Unlimited’s town steering group was able to be added to that for the final round.

“With 25 local applications seeking just under $130,000 it’s clear $842 was never going to go far, so having the other funds available has been useful.

“Even then, it’s obvious from the number of applications that we are not the only ones under pressure. They are all worthy groups, clubs and organisations, and their needs always outstrip what we can meet.”
