Community groups wanting to deliver projects and events in the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board area have until 15 September to apply for funding.

Board Chair Gary Brown says grants help groups and organisations deliver projects and events that make a positive contribution to the local board area.

“We see the difference that grants can make to our community groups and the great work being done in our community."

Brown encourages applicants to read the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Plan and make sure the project or event aligns with one or more of the priorities listed in the plan.

“It is important for groups to be able to demonstrate that they will deliver good community outcomes for the local board area.”

Brown says that grants are an important funding source for community groups but with the annual budget cuts, the board has more limited funds to support groups.

“With the grants rounds typically over-subscribed and the amounts requested far exceeding the funds available, we are trying to make every dollar count.”

Community groups should consider all the funding opportunities available to them and look at other funding agencies where possible.

“Partly funding projects can be a catalyst that enables individuals and groups to obtain the rest of the funds and resources they need to be able to deliver a programme,” says Brown.

Priority will be given to groups that show they are looking for funding through fundraising, sponsorship or by collaborating with other groups. Volunteer time is another way to contribute to a project or event.

Apply for a grant

Local grants are offered twice a year in August and March.

Applicants can apply for a local grant amount between $2000 and $10,000 and complete an online application form at aucklandcouncil.govt.nz

Local grant decisions will be made at the local board business meeting on 24 October 2023 and projects must start after 1 November 2023.

Other grants offered by the local board are Facilities Grants and Multi-board Grants.

Multi-board Grants and Facilities Grants

Applicants have until 1 September to apply for Multi-board Grants and must clearly demonstrate how their project or event will benefit the Hibiscus and Bays community. This grant is considered in collaboration with other local boards. More details are available on the council website at aucklandcouncil.govt.nz

A facilities grant is offered once a year in March. The grant provides funding to assist with the costs of planning or developing a facility within the local board area. The grant can be used for needs assessments, feasibility studies, investigation and design costs, and small building works.

Fifty-five community organisations received $259,247 in the final round of the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board Grants Programme for 2022/2023.
