There’s still time to have your say on the Kaipātiki Local Board Draft plan before consultation closes on 14 August and help steer the direction of the board's decision-making for the next three years.
Board Chair John Gillon says it’s been great to see the feedback coming in since consultation opened in July.
“This is such an important document and seeing your thoughts about what we are planning has been beneficial, but we still need to hear from more of you to make sure we are meeting the needs of all people in Kaipātiki. So please, take a few minutes to read the plan and tell us what you think before consultation ends on 14 August.”
In their plan, the local board has developed five priorities to help guide the decisions they make over the next three years: Belonging and wellbeing, Environment, Places and spaces, Transport and connections, and Opportunity and prosperity.

Priority 3: Places and spaces
Budgets are tight so the board is committed to meeting the immediate needs of our community by prioritising investment in its most well-used and popular assets. The board is also investigating nature-based solutions that improve our parks and public spaces at minimal cost, such as planting specimen trees for shade, reduced mowing for increased biodiversity and natural play items such as māra hūpara (traditional Māori play elements).
We will work closely with Eke Panuku, Kāinga Ora and the Northcote Town Centre Association to prioritise the integrated community hub, town square and Cadness Reserve redevelopment.
The board will also advocate to Auckland Council’s Governing Body to develop a multi-purpose facility and improved aquatic space as part of the Birkenhead War Memorial Park masterplan.
Priority 4: Transport and connections
Investment to repair and futureproof bush tracks damaged by recent storm events alongside the minimisation of Kauri dieback is a key element of the board’s Kaipātiki Connections Network Plan.
The board will continue to advocate to Auckland Transport about the need for further improvements to our roads and walkways and to make public transport a better choice for our residents.
Priority 5: Opportunity and prosperity
The board will continue to develop strong relationships with businesses in Wairau Valley and support the Northcote and Birkenhead Business Improvement Districts to encourage local employment, and retail opportunities in Kaipātiki. Support of the Young Enterprise Scheme will continue, offering young people the opportunity to develop an entrepreneurial mindset.
The board will continue to advocate for improved public transport for better access to employment and education and changes to local procurement policies to allow greater use of smaller, local businesses and community groups.
