Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland Council encourages all Aucklanders to get involved this Te Wiki o te Reo Māori!
Atu i te 11 - 17 o Hepetema, ka tū ko te kaupapa o Te Wiki o te Reo Māori o tēnei tau, ko 'Kia Kaha Te Reo Māori'.
Taking place from 11 – 17 Hepetema / September, the theme of this year’s Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is ‘Kia Kaha Te Reo Māori’ / ‘let’s make the language strong’.
E akiaki ana te kirikaunihera, te kaiārahi i te Tari o Ngā Huanga Māori, a Kerrin Leoni, i ngā tāngata katoa o Tāmaki Makaurau kia piki ki te waka o Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
Councillor Kerrin Leoni, holder of the Māori Outcomes Portfolio, encourages all Aucklanders to get on the waka this Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
"E ai ki ngā Māori tokomaha, ko te reo he mea ora e urutau ana, e tipu ana hoki. Ko tā Te Wiki o te Reo Māori he whakapakari, he whakatipu hoki i tā tātou taonga kāmehameha katoa – i tō tātou reo," tana kī.
“For many Māori, language is seen as a living thing that adapts and grows. Te Wiki o te Reo Māori strengthens and grows our most precious taonga / treasure – our language,” she says.
"Ahakoa ko te ako i te karakia, i te waiata rānei hei whakaharatau i te roanga o te wiki, ko te ū rānei ki te ako i tētahi kupu i ia rā, he ara wātea a Te Wiki o te Reo Māori kia ako, kia tipu hoki tātou katoa."
“Whether it’s learning a karakia / prayer or waiata / song to practice throughout the week or committing to learning new kupu / words each day, Te Wiki o te Reo Māori is an opportunity for us all to learn and grow.”

Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau is encouraging all its kaimahi / staff to get involved by profiling te reo Māori during Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, sharing resources to help teams learn and use te reo, and holding space for te reo initiatives such as Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori / Māori Language Moment.

Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori /Māori Language Moment

Set an alarm for midday on 14 September as the whole motu / country is invited to collectively stop what they’re doing for Te Wā Tuku Reo Māori / Māori Language Moment.

Mahuru Māori
Ko Mahuru Māori tētahi kaupapa, kotahi-marama nei te roa, e whai ana kia māori te whakamahinga o te reo Māori i ngā ao o ia rā, kia akiakingia hoki te katoa ki te karawhiu i te reo Māori – ahakoa te taumata o ō pūkenga.
Mahuru Māori is a month-long initiative aiming to normalise the use of te reo Māori in everyday life and encouraging everyone to give it a go – whatever your skill level.

Tūpuna Maunga Authority are guardians of tūpuna Maunga / ancestral mountains in Tāmaki Makaurau as places to be honoured, respected and protected for those who have gone before and for the many generations to come, on behalf of mana whenua.
