One small step for man, one giant leap for an old and worn-out playground stuck between a rock and a hard place, which Māngere locals are invited to help breathe new life into.

Rock Daisy Crescent Reserve playground is up for renewal to offer fun and safe play equipment to kids of different ages, abilities, and improve play facilities.

Māngere-Ōtāhuhu local board chair Tauanu’u Nick Bakulich says, “Māngere-Ōtāhuhu is already highly urbanised, so our parks and open spaces play an important role in connecting residents with nature that enhances their health and wellbeing.
“This playground currently offers only two pieces of play equipment so it’s very basic, which means there is room for more fun and excitement. Our goal is to provide children with a wider variety of play options that caters for different abilities, while ensuring a safe and enjoyable recreational space for everyone.”

The renewal of Rock Daisy Crescent Reserve playground includes a nature play area, jumping and balancing play equipment, an informal gathering place, shaded areas, and a separate area for toddlers.

Bakulich adds, “In July 2024, the project team will prepare for construction to take place in 2025, so I strongly urge our community to join in and help design the play spaces in our area, especially those who live nearby or families with children of different ages and abilities. Just imagine the endless exciting adventures we can have because our community gave their feedback.”
