Over $77,000 has been allocated to community groups by the Upper Harbour Local Board in the final grants round for the current financial year.
Applications totalled just over $258,000, far outstripping the board’s budget.
Board chair Anna Atkinson says, “We see the difference that grants can make in our community, and with our grants rounds over-subscribed, and so many deserving projects, we try to fund as many projects as possible with a focus on those that align with our priorities in the local board plan.
“We want to support projects that align with our local board priorities and focus on community participation and wellbeing, newcomers, families, youth, sport and recreation, and the environment.”
Groups that received funding within the Sport and Recreation category include Meadowood House, who received the largest grant of $24,686 for a new surface for the junior playground, and West Harbour Tennis Club, who got $7,000 to help upgrade their court lights to a LED system.
In the arts and culture category, funds were allocated to the NZ BaiYun Beijing Opera Society, who received $4,000 towards venue and instrument hire, the Albany Chinese Association who received $4,000 for venue hire and event material, and $7,000 was allocated to the popular Hobsonville Point Diwali event.
Other organisations that benefitted, include Business North Harbour, who received $4,445.85 towards the Foodwaste Management Programme, and the Kaipātaki Project who were granted $3,000 towards the regeneration of Clearwater Cove.
Youthline Auckland, The Recreators and Garden to Table received multi-board grants of $3,000, $2,500 and $1,000 respectively. Projects or activities with participants in three or more local board areas are eligible for multi-board grants.
