The unsung heroes behind a multitude of grassroots initiatives, empowering individuals, and organisations creating positive change in the community.
Board chair Apulu Reece Autagavaia comments, “We are extremely proud as a board to have been able to fund a range of projects and initiatives for the betterment of our community, even with a reduced budget.
“We are continually trying to improve our engagement with our diverse communities. Our commitment to support our community networks, the leaders of today and tomorrow, and the various community organisations remains constant. Their collective efforts contribute significantly to ensuring that our community is open and welcoming to all. In addition to this, we are making sure that our community facilities and services are fit for purpose.”
With $26,476 of funding allocated to the Pursuit of Excellence Award, the board has created a platform to shine a spotlight on excellence and inspire others to reach for their own greatness.
Apulu comments “By tapping into youth energy, creativity and supporting local talent, skills and encouraging enterprise and youth aspirations, we help nurture our future leaders that will lead to change.”
While $313,544 went towards the Local and Multi-board grants, focused mainly on community events followed by sports and recreation, and arts and culture.
Apulu says, “Having these local groups actively engaged helps to remove these barriers, makes a difference, and reinforces the fundamental principle that locals know locals best. These groups are deeply rooted in the community, understanding its needs, aspirations, and challenges firsthand and make a tangible impact where it matters most.
“Together, these groups are the real heroes of our community, working tirelessly behind the scenes to create positive change and build a more sustainable, resilient future for all. Their efforts remind us that by coming together, we can overcome any challenge and create a community where everyone thrives.”
