Applications are now open for Howick Local Board Local Grants focusing on safety, connection, wellbeing, and creativity for 2024/25.

Eligible community groups, organisations, schools, and providers are invited to apply for local grants exceeding $3,000.

Board chair Damian Light says, “The health, wellbeing, and safety of all our communities is a key focus for this board and we want to commit to programmes that support an involved, connected, active, creative and healthy community. We want to promote wellbeing and to ensure we are part of an inclusive society where everyone feels valued, respected, supported and safe.

“We know that businesses and community organisations are facing similar challenges with rising costs and high inflation, and we’re determined to help them achieve greater financial sustainability to empower them.”

The first round of local grant applications is currently open until 9 August, for activities scheduled after 1 November. Decisions will be finalised in October. Types of projects or initiatives funded can be in Arts, Community, Environment, Events, Heritage and Sports and Recreation.

Applications must align with one of the following key focus areas: our people, our environment, our community, our places, and our economy.

Priority will be given to applications that contribute to events or activities that benefit the local board area, recovery from significant weather events and have considered other funding sources.

“Ensuring funding reaches where it can make the most meaningful impact in our East Auckland community is our priority. Since Celebrating Cultures won't be part of 2025, we're eager to allocate these funds directly to benefit our community.

Turning plans into reality takes many people working together – to deliver projects and services and we’d love for providers and groups to apply,” says Light.

Successful applicants must submit an accountability report at the end of their project or activity. This is required to show us how the grant was used.
