A plan around the development of the Clevedon Village precinct envisages a growing role for the area in the future of the community.

A proposed Clevedon Village concept plan has been approved.

Franklin Local Board chair Angela Fulljames says while opinions varied during consultation on the draft, the need for a plan was supported unanimously.

“There was strong support for developing a plan that improves open spaces and amenities.

“We asked for an upgrade to the North Road play space and park amenities, refurbishment of the village hall, renewal of the public toilets and that staff develop a plan that would phase delivery over several years.

“We have allocated some funding to developing the plan and to the design and part of the carparking, bike hub and playground renewal. Funding strategies will need to be developed for further stages.”

She says because work will be delivered in stages, it remains possible to bring work forward depending on finances and factors such as private sector support.

A draft concept plan was presented to the board in March before being sent for public engagement that included online feedback and a public drop-in session. That feedback has been incorporated into the plan the board has supported.

Fulljames says staff will now progress the project to detailed design, consenting and construction stages.

The Clevedon Village Centre community spaces comprise the hall and adjacent spaces, the Clevedon District Centre site, and the Village Reserve.

The spaces serve a growing population, with Franklin and Papakura New Zealand’s fastest growing districts. Clevedon sits at the centre of a wider rural community, with new residents expected to double the population in the coming years.

The plan includes:

  •  removing the house at 6 North Road

  •  expanding the playground

  • building a bike hub, public toilets and a shower

  • shifting the carpark to create a multi-use area for events

  • extending the community hall and building a deck

  • adding a mobile library to existing service

  • moving Plunket to the District Centre and accommodating complementary services

  • establishing a civic garden, and retaining the reserve as green space.
