Waitematā residents are invited to share their ideas and visions for the future management of local parks.
Consultation to help shape a draft Waitematā Local Parks Management Plan is open now and runs until Wednesday 11 December.
The plan will set a framework for the use, protection, and development of local parks.
Waitematā Local Board chair Genevieve Sage says it’s important locals get involved.
“As our area’s population continues to grow, open spaces are increasingly valuable for play, leisure, greenery and community connectedness,” says Genevieve.
“We want to know what you love about your favourite parks in Waitematā, what you do when you visit, and what would make your park experience even better.”
The board is responsible for about 102 local parks and reserves. 13 of these parks have existing management plans, all of them 19 years old or more, which will be superseded by the new plan.
Pukekawa / Auckland Domain will not be included in the plan because it is not managed exclusively by the local board.
The plan is still some way from being finalised, with consultation critical to the process. After feedback is analysed, a draft plan can be prepared.
It is anticipated the draft plan will be available for the public to review and give feedback on in mid-2026.
To make a submission go to akhaveyoursay.nz or pick up a hardcopy form from your local library. You can also email waitematalpmp@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
Council staff who are working on the project will be at Grey Lynn Farmers Market on Sunday 17 November from 8:30am to midday, and will be available to chat and answer any questions.
