Kaipātiki now has a plan in place to help its residents and businesses stay safe before, during, and after an emergency.

The Kaipātiki Local Board Emergency Readiness and Response Plan was developed with Auckland Emergency Management (AEM) in response to the devastating weather events of 2023 which highlighted the importance of local preparedness and community support during emergencies.

Developed through consultation with diverse community and faith-based groups, subject matter experts, and key agencies, the plan is designed to reflect the unique needs of the Kaipātiki area, identifying major local hazards and providing tips on reducing risk, preparing for emergencies, and navigating the recovery process.

“The Kaipātiki Local Board Emergency Readiness and Response Plan is an important piece of work that the board is proud to be involved with. Kaipātiki and the Wairau Valley were hit hard by the weather events of early 2023, so a plan like this that looks at the issues specific to our area, so we are better prepared for next time is very welcome. Huge thanks to everyone involved.” says Local Board Chair John Gillon.

Printed copies will be available in libraries and community centres, while a digital version is available on the council website.
