Significant upgrades to improve the stormwater ponds at Bruce Pulman Park are set to get underway, paving the way for an improved ecosystem and water flow into the Manukau Harbour.

Funded by Papakura Local Board in partnership with Bruce Pulman Park Trust, a dawn blessing led by Mana Whenua in April marked the start of the upgrades.

Three stormwater ponds next to The Track, Kuaka Road and Porchester Road will undergo a significant upgrade over the next six months.

The upgrades will increase capacity, stabilize embankments and improve water quality while supporting a healthy ecosystem for wildlife. These ponds help manage water flow from the park into Awakeri Wetlands that eventually lead out to the Manukau Harbour.

Papakura Local Board Chair Brent Catchpole says the upgrade is part of the Board’s commitment to environmental projects across the area.

“Bruce Pulman Park serves as not only an epicentre for sporting events for Aucklander’s, but also a recreational greenspace for people who live nearby.”

The upgrades are part of the local board’s environmental programme, which includes investment across planting, pest control, stream and water quality enhancements, healthy homes, and waste minimisation projects.

“We’re investing today so the future generations can enjoy cleaner waterways, thriving wildlife, and accessible green spaces that support wellbeing”, says Catchpole.
