- Glen Innes community hall library to close from 14 July
- Upgraded Glen Innes Library expected to open in early August
- The upgrades include a new roof, interior and exterior painting, re-wiring the library to support faster wifi connectivity, and other enhancements.
Plans are underway for the re-opening of the Glen Innes Library, with the temporary community hall library set to close from 14 July as preparation work starts.
The Glen Innes Library has been closed since 20 January, with the nearby community hall providing library services while the upgrades have been going on.
Initially the work was expected to be completed later this year, but the project is ahead of schedule, with the library expected to re-open in early August.
Maungakiekie-Tāmaki chair Maria Meredith welcomes the news of an earlier open date to the popular facility.
“We’re excited to almost have the Glen Innes Library back in service, and it’s great news the library will open a few months earlier than expected. The building needed some aroha, and a new roof, and it’s going to look and feel much better, with fresh paint, faster wifi connections and best of all – a safe and dry roof.”
“A massive thanks to the library staff at the Glen Innes community hall for providing a great interim solution, and to the community for their patience while the work has been going on, we’re almost there with an upgraded library in Glen Innes.”
During the closure period for the community hall any library books can be returned to Panmure, St Heliers or the Auckland CBD Library in the interim.
The confirmed open date for the library will be made closer to the time, with the first or second week of August likely.
