Help choose the next stage of the Beach Haven coastal connections project

Beach Haven Coastal
Help us choose the next stage of this beautiful coastal walk in Beach Haven.

The next stage in a stunning step-free coastal journey in Kaipātiki is about to be constructed — and the community is being encouraged to help decide which direction it will take.

Two proposed options are on the table for the next stage of the Beach Haven coastal connections project, and public feedback is being sought to help shape the future of this much-loved route.

Consultation is open now until 14 July 2025

“The ultimate vision is for an easily accessible route between Tui Park, Shepherds Park, Hellyers Creek Reserve, and on to Bayview and Eskdale Reserve and beyond. We've already upgraded the middle section, providing a popular step-free route between Shepherds Park and Hellyers Creek Reserve, and now we need your help to choose the next stage to be completed. Will it be a boardwalk between Tui Park and Shepherds Park, or a bridge and boardwalk between Hellyers Creek Reserve and Kahika Point Reserve? Please take 10 minutes out of your day and let us know which of the two options we should prioritise,” says board chair John Gillon.

Connecting the next stretch

The next stage of the project will link to the recently upgraded tracks, which run from Cresta Ave through Shepherds Park and Hellyers Creek Reserve, around the coast to the dip in Beach Haven Rd.

The two proposed options for the next stage are:

  • Option 1: a path to connect Tui Park with the new coastal track in Shepherds Park
  • Option 2: a path to connect Hellyers Creek Reserve with Kahika Point Reserve in Birkdale

As funding is only available for one of the options, the board is asking the public to help decide which one will deliver the greatest benefit to the community.
