Picturesque coastal connections around the Manukau Harbour will be restored by 2027, thanks to securing a portion of the Fix and Finish Fund.

The Fix and Finish Fund resulted from the Long-term Plan 2024-2034 and the sale of Auckland International Airport Ltd shares held by the legacy Auckland City and Manukau areas.

Local boards from those areas were eligible to apply to the fund, which provides one-off funding to community projects. The Puketāpapa Local Board’s application was for funding for the damaged Waikōwhai Coastal Tracks.

This stunning collection of tracks was severely damaged in the 2023 floods, with a number of sections needed repair work.

The Fix and Finish Fund injection of $2.2M allows for the repair work to be fast-tracked and fully funded, with an expected completion date of 2027.

Puketāpapa Local Board Chair Ella Kumar is thrilled for the funding confirmation.

“We’re blessed to have such scenic and beautiful connections around the Manukau Harbour in Puketāpapa, and since January 2023 large parts of these tracks have needed repair work so they can be used again.
“This funding is critical in repairing and upgrading the tracks, so that our community can once again enjoy the full suite of picturesque walks in Puketāpapa. We’re so excited to have this mahi locked in.”

Earlier this year a section of the track was re-opened, and in late 2024 the Waikōwhai Boardwalk was re-connected.

However, the remaining sections were not expected to be completed until 2028, if and when funding was allocated.
