Houkura Board appointments confirmed

Houkura was established in 2010 under the Local Government Act 2009.

E ngā mana, e ngā reo, e ngā karangatanga maha, tēnei te mihi ki a koutou. He kaupapa whakahirahira tēnei mō Tāmaki Makaurau, mō tātou katoa.

The Selection Body for Houkura, the Independent Māori Statutory Board, is pleased to confirm the following appointments to the Board:

Mana Whenua representatives:
•    Karen Wilson
•    Margaret Tukerangi
•    Michelle Wilson
•    Tori Ngataki
•    David Taipari
•    Ngarimu Blair
•    Mook Hohneck

Mātāwaka representatives:
•    Tony Kake
•    Tau Henare

The representatives will take office on 1 November 2025 and will serve on the board until 31 October 2028.

About Houkura – the Independent Māori Statutory Board

Houkura was established in 2010 under the Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009. Its role is to promote issues of significance for Māori in Tāmaki Makaurau and to ensure Auckland Council:

•    takes Māori views and priorities into account in its decision making, and
•    acts in accordance with legislative obligations relating to Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

The board has nine members: seven from mana whenua groups and two appointed as mātāwaka representatives. Members serve three-year terms.
