Right by the beach, the Manly Park playground is a well-used local favourite and it’s ready for an upgrade — now you can have a say on what that looks like.
The Hibiscus and Bays Local Board want everyone to enjoy the playground, whether they are there after school, on the weekend, or stopping by for a play and a picnic.
The board has plans to renew the playground equipment, improve safety surfacing and drainage, and make the space easier and more enjoyable to use.
Consultation on the plans is open until 25 May and Local Board Chair Alexis Poppelbaum says the aim is a space that works well for all ages and abilities, while keeping the things families already love.
“We want a playground that reflects our community and makes the most of this great beachfront location.
“It should be a space that’s fun, safe, and works for everyone, from little kids through to teens and caregivers.”
Swings and a slide will stay, but there’s room to add more of what the community wants.
The local board wants to hear what kids enjoy most at the playground. This could include climbing, jumping or balancing, spinning or rocking equipment, monkey bars or flying-style play, as well as music and nature-based play.
People can also suggest extras like seating, paths, bins, or fitness equipment for adults.
Both adults and children can give feedback using separate online forms, or they can share their ideas by email or post. For more details, visit the AK Have Your Say website.
“Your feedback will help shape a great local playground by the beach for everyone to enjoy,” says Poppelbaum.
