Plans to progress Manurewa’s first ever Pan-Pacific Hub are gaining momentum.

Manurewa Local Board appointed Elika Consulting Group (ECG) to lead community engagement and feasibility investigations for the proposed hub at Clendon Reserve at its May business meeting.

The appointment marks a key step toward understanding how the Pan-Pacific Hub could support and strengthen the local Pasifika community.

What is a Pan-Pacific Hub

The Pan-Pacific Hub is a long-term aspiration of the local board, aimed at improving wellbeing outcomes for Pacific communities, enabling them to thrive and supporting more community-led initiatives.

Manurewa Local Board chair Heather Andrew is pleased to see the project progressing.

“We are incredibly excited about the opportunities this concept could unlock for our Pasifika community,” says chair Andrew.

With Pacific peoples making up 36 per cent of Manurewa’s population (reported in the last Census) – the largest ethnic group in the area and likely still growing, demand for a dedicated community space is clear.

The proposed hub would create a central place to support the holistic wellbeing of Pacific families, delivered through a purpose-built facility.

Through a feasibility study, ECG will explore how the hub could strengthen community connections, build partnerships and work in collaboration with mana whenua.

Why Elika Consulting Group?

Following Auckland Council’s expressions of interest process, ECG was selected for its top-scoring strengths in community leadership, technical capabilities and authentic connections.

Chair Andrew acknowledged the high level of interest in the project.

“Thank you to all applicants who put their best foot forward to support our community. We appreciate your efforts and look forward to seeing your ideas and involvement in different ways within the community soon,” she says.

With $100,000 allocated by the local board, ECG is expected to deliver a feasibility report that assesses the viability of a future hub through community engagement, technical analysis and early concept planning.

What happens next?

The report will be presented to Manurewa Local Board in the coming months, outlining options and recommendations to inform future decisions.
