The Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board has approved the Onehunga Business Improvement District (BID) targeted rate to drop from $1,000,000 to $350,000 - following a majority decision from the Onehunga Business Association membership.
The Onehunga BID was set at $1,000,000 from all businesses for 2024/2025 – however at a Special General Meeting (SGM) in 2025 – a resolution was approved by Onehunga Business Association (OBA) members to reduce the rate for 2025/2026.
The approval of the rates reduction from the local board paves the way for the Governing Body to set the reduced BID targeted rate of $350,000, as part of the Annual Plan and budget 2025/2026.
Maungakiekie-Tamaki Local Board chair Debbie Burrows says the local board approval of the reduction confirms what most OBA members wanted.
“The feedback from more than seventy per cent of the votes stated a rates reduction for the Onehunga Business Association, and we’re reflecting what the feedback is with reducing the BID catchment area.”
“The Onehunga Business Association do great work in promoting and engaging with the many businesses in Onehunga, and I’m sure they will continue to do so, and we look forward to working with them.”
The BID boundary area has been reduced in size, and now incorporates 563 business ratepayers and property owners, instead of the previous 1,123.
Once the rates are approved by the Governing Body, the council will collect the targeted rate funds effective from 1 July 2025.
