What makes up Auckland’s stormwater infrastructure?
Stormwater infrastructure are used to manage rainfall runoff from urban areas, and consists of a range of assets including:
- 7000km of pipes
- 182,000 manholes
- more than 100,000 catchment pits
- more than 5000 treatment devices.
Why does Auckland Council manage stormwater?
We manage the quantity and quality of stormwater run-off to:
- minimise flooding
- maintain the environmental value of our aquatic habitats
- prevent the pollution of our seas.
What does the legislation say?
- The stormwater bylaw helps protect our waterways by ensuring stormwater systems are of a consistently high standard across Auckland. For more information, see theStormwater Bylaw.
- The Auckland region Network Discharge Consent sets out a range of requirements for connecting to the stormwater network and assets to bevested to the council.
