To celebrate the new splash pads under construction at Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre and Lloyd Elsmore Park Pool and Leisure Centre, Auckland Council and partner ANZ went on the hunt for the ultimate Kiwi summer rash shirt.
All kindy and school-aged children in Whangaparāoa, Ōrewa, Silverdale and Pakuranga had four weeks to get creative and show us what they love about summer by designing their own rashie.
There was great support from local schools and after a tough judging process, the two lucky winners have been chosen.
Commenting on the competition, judge and Lloyd Elsmore Park Pool and Leisure Centre Manager Gary Burr says the winning entries were chosen for their creativity and how well the design captured summer fun.
“We had a great turnout of entries and the calibre of the drawings was impressive. It was great to see kids of different ages getting involved,” he says.
ANZ Bank Orewa Branch Manager and judge for the Stanmore Bay competition, Angela Baird says the rashie competition was a great way to engage the local children in celebrating the soon-to-open splash pad and the coming summer season.
“I really enjoyed the judging experience. I was impressed by the colour and energy the kids put into their artwork,” she says.
The winners will be one of the first to try out their local splash pad with their classmates, wearing their personally designed rash shirt.

The place to be this summer
The two splash pads will feature an array of water play features including fountains, mist sprayers and elevated structures, designed to provide children of all ages and abilities with a free, safe and fun water play area.
There will also be a picnic zone perfect for families to come together and relax.
This project is led by a new partnership between ANZ and Auckland Council, and meets the council’s objective of making Auckland a better place to live.
The splash pads are being built within the current pool and leisure facilities at Stanmore Bay and Pakuranga and are expected to launch with the start of summer in early December.
