Auckland Library basement tours

Auckland Central City Library is offering guided tours of its extensive basement stack collection.

It’s a rare opportunity to discover strange curiosities, browse for your favourite authors or simply marvel at the wealth of material acquired over more than a century of collecting.

You’ll be able to see and borrow some of the incredible books that aren't on display on the library’s public floors and experience the mysterious and magical qualities of the Central City Library basement.

Highlights include the massive conveyor belt that once carried books all over the library, a climate-controlled room holding delicate items and, of course, books. Lots and lots of books.

The library has recently held a spooky storytime session for kids in the basement, and other exciting activities are planned – check back here for details.
