For those who are ‘town planning curious’, this special Heritage Festival offering includes a photo display and a talk by John Adam on Tuesday, 23 Sept 2025, 2:00PM - 3:30 pm.
The photo exhibition (20 Sep to 5 Oct) features archival images from parks and leisure, such as Waikowhai Park, Keith Hay Park, Walmsley and Underwood parks, and May Road War Memorial Park.
In 2015, John Adam contributed to the Te Tātua-a-Riukiuta / Three Kings Historic Heritage Report that was commissioned by Auckland City and co-written by Dr Elizabeth Pischief. John draws on this report and other research to illustrate how people and government laws created the Three Kings Reserve and public stone quarry, and Plantation Reserve in the 1880s. He explores how 50 years later, new 20th century town planning legislation drove the creation of reserves including Arthur S. Richard Memorial Reserve, Big King Reserve, Robinson and Smallfield Reserves.
