Art Competition

St Heliers Church & Community Centre is excited to launch the Future Visions Art Competition!

The theme is “St Heliers in 2040”—a year that marks 200 years since the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We’re inviting our community to imagine and create artworks that express your vision for the future of St Heliers.

Artists are encouraged to consider their neighbourhood in 2040. Here are some questions to get you thinking:

  • What could St Heliers and the surrounding bays look like in 2040, in terms of environment, architecture, technology, and daily life?
  • How might climate change, sustainability, or kaitiakitanga (guardianship of the environment) shape our future?
  • In 2040, it will be 200 years since Te Tiriti o Waitangi was signed. How could the promises of partnership, participation, and protection be reflected in the Eastern Bays of the future?
  • What role might tangata whenua and tikanga Māori play in shaping our community’s identity in 2040?
  • How can we imagine a community that values equity, kindness, creativity, and peace?

Winning entries across age categories will be displayed in the St Heliers Community Centre—seen by thousands each year—and judged by a panel of leading artists and curators. Prizes will be awarded in December 2025 at an “unveiling event” hosted by St Heliers Church and Community Centre, with entries closing Wednesday 29 October 2025.
