Mother's Day sewing repair café

Generations of care

Sewing Repair Cafe

This Mother’s Day, we’re celebrating the threads that connect us - across time, across generations and through the clothes we cherish.

Join Fashion Revolution New Zealand and Repair Café Aotearoa New Zealand for a special sewing Repair Café, Generations of Care, taking place on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. This gathering is an invitation to slow down, sit side-by-side, and mend - not just garments, but stories, memories and connections.

Repairing and mending are more than just fixing an object - they are a legacy of wisdom passed down through the hands of our mothers, aunties, and grandmothers. It is the restorative power of mending memories and ensuring that the things we love - and the skills to save them - are carried forward to the next generation.

Bring along a piece that holds meaning: a well-worn favourite, a treasured heirloom, or something passed down from your mum or grandmother. Our skilled volunteers will mend your item and share their knowledge. This is a space to honour the care woven into clothing across generations.

Come with your mum, your grandmother or someone who feels like home. And for those whose mothers are no longer with us, you’re warmly invited to join us in remembrance - bring a special keepsake and mend it in honour of mum, holding her memory in every stitch.

We’re also delighted to be collaborating with Ozone Coffee, just nearby. Make a morning of it and enjoy breakfast or lunch before or after the Repair Cafe, continuing the ritual of care, connection and conversation.

Bring a garment or textile in need of a little aroha (and maybe your mum, too).

Let’s mend with meaning - for the people we love and for the clothes that carry their stories.
