Pool safety tips
- never prop pool gates open
- supervise children around pools at all times
- don’t fill a new pool until its fence has passed its safety check or a complying temporary barrier is in place
- pools recorded as empty by the council must be checked before refilling
- ensure your pool has had an official safety check within the last three years
- portable and inflatable pools that are more than 40cm deep must be fenced.
“Accidents tend to happen when children are unsupervised,” said Building Consents general manager Ian McCormick. “Make sure someone always has an eye on them.”
