Pitau Potiki, the Te Reo Māori speaking doll created by Rotorua couple Kristin Ross and Hohepa Tuahine, is the latest addition to the collection at the Mt Albert Toy Library.
“We are constantly on the lookout for fun educational toys and always browsing the internet for toys and that's how I came across this Te Reo Māori speaking one,” says librarian Jamie Teo.
"We have more than 20 countries represented at our toy library so our aim is to be able to offer quality toys that are not only fun and educational but also speak different or various languages too.
The Mt Albert Toy Library has been running for nearly three decades now and began with the purchase of the toys from the Avondale Baptist Toy Library which was closing down.
The purchase of the toys was instigated by two members of Mt Albert Baptist Church who were wanting to continue a valuable service to the community.
The library was able to make Pitau Potiki available to locals with funding from Albert-Eden Local Board.
“With increasing financial pressures on many young families, the library offers a great service for families and is more relevant than ever,” says Albert-Eden Local Board Chair Peter Haynes.
About the Mt Albert Toy Library
The Mt. Albert Toy Library operates an annual membership of $60/family or $40 for community service cardholder and the toy hire fee ranges from 50c/toy/fortnight to $4/toy/fortnight.
Opening hours: Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9.30 - 11.30 during term time.
