Soul at the beach, jazz in the shade and Latin on the lawn, we're taking Music in Parks to Manurewa, Maraetai and Parnell this weekend.
This summer’s Music in Parks series will see 25 free music events hosted by Auckland Council in parks across the region – through until 11 April - bringing Auckland, a UNESCO City of Music, to life.

This weekend Aucklanders are invited to Music by the Beach with Radio Rebelde, Levi Lights On Project and Sunny Ray for a mix of roots, reggae and country on Saturday 18 January 2020 from 3pm-6pm at Omana Beach Reserve , Omana Beach Road, Maraetai.
Kiwi-international artist Sunny Ray delivers heartfelt soul/folk/roots music with conscious themes and positive messages. Connecting with the part of us that seeks meaning and wisdom, Sunny Ray offers mesmerising new ways to view the world.
If jazz is your style, head to Jazz at Nathan Homestead with music from Santiago Soul Stars, Kevin Field Quartet and Manukau Youth Jazz Orchestra on Saturday 18 January, 1pm-4pm at Nathan Homestead, Hill Road, Manurewa, surrounded by nine acres of exquisite lawn and gardens.
Pianist and composer Kevin Field has collaborated with some of the top international names in jazz on his New York album The A List (Warner Music). He has also worked with Grammy-nominated guitarist Mike Moreno and Charles Haynes, drummer/producer for Kanye West and Lady Gaga.
Or for a taste of Latin music there’s A World Music Celebration with Ijebu Pleasure Club, Banda Latina on Sunday 19 January, 1pm-4pm at Auckland Domain Rotunda, The Crescent, Parnell.
Ijebu Pleasure Club will get you on your feet, singing and shaking your booty in equal measure. Formed more than 20 years ago, Banda Latina will share their passion for Latin music with a repertoire that includes Latin songs, jazz, Latin rock, bolero and bossa nova.
Here are just some of the other artists coming to Auckland green spaces this summer:
- Midge Marsden is back by popular demand to play what’s sure to be an excellent rhythm and blues set for Blues at Blockhouse Bay at Blockhouse Bay Reserve on Friday 7 February
- Kiwi stars The Feelers, Anika Moa and Jason Kerrison will take to the stage at The Hits Kiwi Anthems concert in Lloyd Elsmore Park on Sunday 23 February, supported by Howick Local Board
- Basque Park in Eden Terrace will host a brand-new event Uptown Sounds brought to the 2020 Music in Parks series by Uptown Business Association and headlined by Pluto on Saturday 15 February
- Carb on Carb and Lucky Boy are among the acts bringing their indie sound to Love Songs from the Underground in Auckland Domain’s Rotunda again on Sunday 29 March.
So, head on down to your local park for a festival vibe and groove along to your own summer soundtrack.
