Autumn is in the air and this seasonal change will also see change in the leadership of our local board. Vanessa Neeson will become Chair of Henderson-Massey Local Board from next month until the end of the current term in 2022.

Brenda Brady will replace Will Flavell as Deputy Chair. Both Vanessa and Brenda bring a wealth of local West Auckland experience from their times as Waitākere City Councilors and as members of the board.

I look forward to working with them over the next 18 months and wish them well for their terms in office.

I would like to thank the members of the board for their support and hard work over the last 18 months. I would particularly like to acknowledge my Deputy Chair, Will Flavell, for his support and his contributions to the board’s work programme.

Will is a very talented young man who, like me, is a former Rutherford College teacher. He is an excellent public speaker with a real gift for languages. Will is fluent in Maori, Japanese and is mastering the Samoan language. I believe he has a bright future in politics.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank the office staff for their support and hard work over the last 18 months. Sharlene has been a fantastic support to me as my minder, support person, and general troubleshooter. Wendy, Tracey, Brenda, Betty, Nathan, David, Shreya, and Adam have all made my task as Chair more effective. I want to acknowledge the work they continue to do on behalf of our local communities.

I will continue to work as an elected board member for the next 18 months supporting my colleagues and pursuing local initiatives. I remain firmly committed to my three key local projects, getting Waitākere Hospital upgraded, helping facilitate the revitalization of the Henderson CBD and getting that Walking Track around Te Atatu Peninsula finally completed.

Warm regards

Chris
