Forty-three community groups or organisations have benefited from Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board’s latest round of 2022/2023 grants.
The board has awarded community grants totalling more than $150,000, but they express that due to a reduced budget, support will not be the same.
Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board chair Apulu Reece Autagavaia says, “This local board will not be able to support as many groups or activities as we currently do due to operating on a reduced budget, as approved by the Mayor and Councillors. However, we will endeavour to continue to pass on funds and resources to our locals who know locals best.”
Applications for Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board grant funding reached $151,195 in total in this latest round. Whilst the majority were fully or part-funded, some applications were declined.
“As covered off in our response to the Annual budget plan, we have some difficult choices ahead and this round reflects the wider impact felt by our communities around the budget challenge” adds Apulu.
Full funding went to the following groups:
- Papatoetoe Central Main Street Society Incorporated for a Matariki event at Papatoetoe Town Centre
- Habitat for Humanity Northern Region Limited towards costs to deliver the Healthy Homes Programmes across highest-need areas in Auckland
- David Riley towards Eight bilingual Pacific superhero children's books and audiobooks
- Bellyful New Zealand Trust for meal production and service delivery
- Young Workers Resource Centre towards education coordinator wages and teaching resources costs
- East Tamaki Rugby for security bars at the Club
- PHAB Association Inc towards facilitators, wages, catering, and admin fee at Allan Brewster Leisure Centre
“The local board works hard to distribute as much funding to our local groups who serve and care for our local communities, in all its diversity” explains Apulu.
Other notable funding includes Kila's Style Trust towards it’s Dressed in Confidence project, another working collaboration with Kolmar Charitable Trust towards court resurfacing at Kolmar Sports Complex, NAAD Charitable Trust NZ for venue hire, music fees, equipment hire and video production, KidsCan Charitable Trust, Faith City Trust Board and Youthline Auckland Charitable Trust.
