Henderson-Massey Local Board’s draft plan is now open for consultation, and board members are inviting residents to share their thoughts on the key priorities.

The Board has prepared a draft plan and wants to know if they have got it right. It’s easy to have your say – just fill out the simple online form by 14 August.

Henderson-Massey Local Board deputy chair Brooke Loader says the consultation is more important than ever and encourages everyone to read the plan.

“The draft plan outlines priorities and programmes, to address flood mitigation at a local level, building stronger ties with our Māori community, and foster a greater sense of belonging for all residents living in Henderson-Massey.
“We all know that the council’s facing great financial challenges and so it is more important than ever for the Board and communities to work together and get our priorities right.”

The Board has five priorities that will help guide the decisions they make over the next three years: Our people, Our Environment, Our Community, Our Places, and Our Economy.

Take a look at the first two priorities and what they mean for the Henderson-Massey area.

Priority 1: Our People

The Board is committed to empowering communities to lead and deliver on their aspirations, ensuring Māori are represented through trusting and productive mana whenua and mataawaka relationships and supporting diversity to be embraced, valued and celebrated.

Some of the key initiatives that the Board will be advocating for are the development of an urban marae on Harbourview-Orangahina Park.

Priority 2: Our Environment

The Board will encourage the community to lead the way in kaitiakitanga, increase tree canopy cover across Henderson-Massey, improve water health, and build resilient and low-carbon communities.

Some of the key initiatives include the implementation of the Shoreline Adaptation Plan for the Waitematā Harbour West area once it has been developed, and additional funding from the Climate Change Targeted Rate or Natural Environment Targeted Rate to increase urban ngahere planting.

Ways to have your say

There are several ways for the Henderson-Massey community to have their say.

For those who prefer to connect through Kōrero in person, there are drop-in sessions at Te Manawa Hub and Te Atatū Peninsula Library. You can find the key dates here.

A combined West Wide Hui will be held at Hoani Waititi Marae on Wednesday 9 August, for our mataawaka and whānau Māori communities in West Auckland.

Another way to view the plan and give feedback is online by clicking here.

It’s your place, your voice.
