The new covered arena at the West Auckland Riding for the Disabled Association will soon see an additional upgrade, thanks to a $20,000 grant from the Henderson-Massey Local Board.
The grant will support installation of an automatic gate, providing 24/7 access to the new covered riding arena and equestrian park, allowing safe and secure access to the venue.
Board Chair Chris Carter says that the grant will contribute to the development of a safe, modern and fit-for-purpose community facility.
“West Auckland Riding for the Disabled is a key community organisation and provides a safe, welcoming space for many children who get so much enjoyment out of the services provided.
“Their work is incredibly important and makes a significant difference to young people with disabilities.
“I am delighted that the board is able to support the ongoing development of the upgraded facility. The addition of an automatic gate will ensure security and safety for members and venue users.”
As development of the new facility makes progress, the grant for the automatic gate marks a key milestone for completing access requirements at the Henderson Valley Road entrance.
It is a key facility for children with disabilities in Henderson-Massey, and the Association provides significant support for the wider disabled community.
The venue, at Henderson Valley Park, is a dual site used by both the West Auckland Riding for the Disabled Association and the Henderson Valley Pony Club, where they provide equestrian facilities and programmes.
The project was identified as a priority within the Henderson-Massey Sport and Active Recreation Facilities Plan adopted in August 2023.
The plan helps the local board in prioritising future investment into sport and active recreation facility projects, to maximise positive community impact.
