Wruff wruff! I’m Rosie. I’m a working dog for Auckland Council’s biosecurity team. I'm new to the game and on a mission to sniff out the pests in our city.

Rats are my game and, though I’m still in training, I’m getting up to speed quickly because I’m a fast learner.

Auckland Council wants more paws on the ground smartly now the natural environment targeted rate is going ahead – so it’s noses down, bottoms up and tails wagging for me. There’s s’nose much work to be done!

I’m looking forward to getting my nose down on those wharves and into those truckies spaces, fossicking around the containers and all that freight heading out to the Hauraki Gulf. It’ll feel good to know I’ll be helping keep our nice, green islands free of the nasty pests when I pass the test – which I will when I get my human-pet up to speed.

Battling pests is in my blood – my mum and dad were good at this sniffing-out business too and I’ve always known it’s what I’d do.

I love my work and am keen to learn all I can, and fast, to help rid Auckland of pests!
