A new walkway connecting Shae Terrace next to North Shore Hospital, across the foreshore of Lake Pupuke to the reserve occupied by the North Shore Rowing and Kayak Clubs has been built and opened.
The new path consists of a 300-metre long, two-metre wide concrete walkway across a thin slice of land between Lake Pupuke and the Quarry Lake.
The path was built following reinforcement works to the lake walls by the installation of large lose rock. The surrounding area was then planted with coastal and aquatic native plants and trees. The path features stylised concrete and steel blocks representing the areas volcanic past and quarrying history.
The project will soon deliver a new concrete platform on Quarry Lake to improve access for water activities, including those of the North Shore Canoe Club and North Shore Radio Yacht Squadron. The platform is expected to be completed in March 2020.
Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Chair, Aidan Bennett, says it’s great to see another link in the board’s Greenway Plan delivered.
