A little theatre group is quietly gaining momentum and a solid local following, thanks to its original content and funding from Puketāpapa Local Board.

No.3 Roskill Theatre, or ‘No. 3’ as it is known to the growing fan base, came together in 2020 with a breakout idea for an original theatre show; telling local stories, staged in backyards, free for the people of the neighbourhood.

The purpose is to nurture the artistic and cultural capital of youth in Mount Roskill.

Ella Kumar, Chairperson of Puketāpapa Local Board says that “the passion of those involved and the number of the crowds which attend No.3 performances, show just how important art and opportunities to perform. really is to our community.”

Their most recent show, Welcome Home was performed in the May Road School fields, to a vocal and supportive crowd of well over 200.

Welcome Home tells a musical and comedic story of the ‘Real Housewives of Roskill’ as they dream about being the ultimate hosts for their new neighbours. Amidst redevelopment, rehousing, and roadworks, they endeavour to maintain the Spirit of the Community.

“It was a social commentary of the best kind”

Keep an eye out for No. 3’s next creative production in your area.
