Property owners who were severely affected by last year’s storms in Auckland should register to get a risk category for their property. If your property is high risk, you may be eligible for financial support.

The deadline for registrations is 30 September 2024.

If your residential property was badly affected by the Auckland Anniversary floods in January 2023 or Cyclone Gabrielle in February 2023, here’s a quick checklist to determine if you should complete the registration form:

Did your property receive a red or yellow ‘sticker’ (Rapid Building Assessment placard) at the time of the severe weather?
Did your property experience above floor/significant flooding during the 2023 severe weather events?
Was your property affected by a landslide as a result of these extreme weather events?

If you answered YES to any of the above we encourage you to complete the registration form at property.flooded.nz

If you answered NO to all three questions you may not be eligible for funding but may find these resources helpful to prepare your home for flooding or reduce the risk of landslides

Learn more about property categorisation

This one-page factsheet will help you understand the risk category process.

Translated factsheets are available in simplified Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Samoan, Tongan and Te Reo. You can find these on the storm recovery documents page under 'translated categorisation factsheets'.

The benefits of registering your property

If you register before 30 September 2024, we will start a risk assessment process which will tell you:

  • the future flood and landslide risk for your home.
  • if you’re eligible to receive funding for your storm-damaged property to ensure the occupants are safe.

What you need to consider when registering your property

  • The information you provide in the registration form and your risk category will be added to the property file for your property. If your property is assessed as Category 2 or 3, this will be disclosed on any Land Information Memorandum (LIM) requested for your property.
  • Regardless of whether you register for a risk category or not, insurers may decide not to insure you or to raise your premiums to reflect the risk in your area.
